The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has stepped up enforcement action against food service establishments operating in violation of regulatory requirements, suspending and shutting down a combined 23 businesses across the Accra Metropolis and the Tema Municipality.
In Tema, seven food service establishments were suspended on 24th February 2026 for operating without the mandatory FDA Food Hygiene Permit. This marked the second enforcement operation in the area, following a public notice in which the FDA had cautioned all food businesses to regularise their operations before 1st February 2026 or face closure.
In a separate but related crackdown, the team shut down 16 food service establishments after inspections revealed non-compliance with good hygiene practices and established food safety standards. Among those affected are The Cheesecake House, Dolce Frizzante, Onda, and Alora Beach Resort, alongside several other businesses across the region.
The FDA wishes to remind all food service operators that obtaining a valid Food Hygiene Permit is not optional — it is a legal requirement and a fundamental safeguard for consumer health and safety. Establishments that continue to flout this requirement will face further enforcement action.
The Authority remains unwavering in its mandate to protect the Ghanaian public from health risks associated with non-compliant food businesses, and urges all operators to regularise their status without delay.
