FDA PROGRAMMES

Corporate Social Responsibility

A nationwide blood donation exercise is organized every year to complement the stock levels of blood in our National Blood Banks.

As part of the Food and Drugs Authority’s (FDA’s) corporate social responsibility, and in line with efforts to provide public awareness of the Authority’s mandate of protecting and preserving public health and safety through effective regulation of blood and blood products, a nationwide blood donation exercise is organized every year to complement the stock levels of blood in our National Blood Banks. To this end, an exercise for this purpose was organized annually under themes such as: “Give blood, Share life”, which was coined out of the slogan for the 2023 World Blood Donor Day campaign.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has indicated that every second of every day, someone needs a blood transfusion to survive and in most developing countries those requiring blood transfusions still depend on paid donors or family members.

In 2023, a total of Two thousand and forty-five (2,045) units of blood were collected to complement the stock levels of blood at the National Blood Bank. Figures for 2022 and 2021 were One thousand, four hundred and eighty-nine (1,489) and six hundred and seventy (670) units respectively.
