FDA Hosts Joint WHO and EU Delegation to Assess Progress of Tema Molecular Biology Laboratory

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) hosted a joint mission from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Union Delegation (EU) from 24th to 27th March 2026, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its regulatory and laboratory capabilities.

Purpose of the Mission

The visit centred on two key objectives: assessing the progress of construction of the Molecular Biology Laboratory in Tema, and determining the technical requirements for the installation of the HVAC system — a critical component of the facility’s operational readiness.

What the Mission Entailed

The engagement comprised boardroom discussions and an on-site inspection of the facility, bringing together key stakeholders to review progress, align on technical requirements, and chart the next steps in the laboratory’s development.

A Partnership Rooted in Shared Commitment

The FDA welcomes the sustained support of both the WHO and the European Union in building Ghana’s regulatory and laboratory capacity. This collaboration reflects a shared commitment to developing world-class infrastructure that will serve the long-term interests of public health — in Ghana and across the region.
