Protecting Every Plate: FDA Ghana Gears Up For World Food Safety Day 2026

Food safety begins long before a meal is served. It starts at the farm, continues through processing and distribution, and ends at the consumer’s table. As World Food Safety Day 2026 approaches, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) Ghana is intensifying efforts to ensure that the journey from farm to fork results in safety, confidence, and good health.

Observed annually on June 7, World Food Safety Day provides an important platform to highlight the shared responsibility of governments, food businesses, and consumers in ensuring that the food we eat is safe.

The global theme for the 2026 celebration, “Safer Food, Better Health,” strongly aligns with the FDA’s mandate to protect public health by regulating foods along the entire value chain.

In line with this theme, FDA Ghana will roll out a series of activities aimed at deepening public understanding and improving food safety practices across the country.

Planned activities will include:

  1. Public sensitization campaigns in markets and communities,
  2. Training sessions for food vendors and processors,
  3. Media engagements to amplify food safety messages,
  4. Stakeholder collaborations with various institutions in health, agriculture, and local government.

These initiatives will focus on practical steps that food handlers and consumers can take to reduce foodborne risks and protect public health.

As preparations toward World Food Safety Day 2026 continue, the FDA remains committed to strengthening consumer confidence, supporting food businesses to comply with safety standards, and reinforcing the message that food safety is everyone’s responsibility.

Through sustained education, regulation, and collaboration, the Authority continues to play a central role in ensuring that food consumed in Ghana is safe, wholesome, and supportive of better health for all.
