PRESS RELEASE- VIRAL VIDEO OF A SANITIZER PURPORTED TO CONTAIN ACID

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) wishes to inform the public that it has seen the viral video of a hand sanitizer purported to contain acid and bearing the brand name BERNICE ALCOHOL BASED HAND SANITIZER.

The general public is assured that FDA treats such claims with urgency and as such at the first instance, dispatched our market surveillance team to gather samples of the said brand from various locations.

The samples were all tested and found to be compliant with the Test Parameters for sanitizers. The parameters tested were NET content, PH, Alcohol Content, Visible Impurities and Presence of Methanol.

The FDA assures the public that BERNICE ALCOHOL BASED HAND SANITIZER has passed all tests and as such is safe for use.

The incident from the video has been reported and is being investigated by the Kasoa Police. We would like to encourage the public to check the FDA website and social media pages frequently for the updated list of all registered sanitizers within Ghana.
