INAUGURATION OF THE FDA'S GOVERNING BOARD

The Minister of Health, Mr Kwaku Agyemang-Manu on Thursday, September 16th, 2021 inaugurated an 11-member Governing Board of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) whose role is critical to the national health delivery system.

The 11-member Board is chaired by Dr Sammy Ohene, Head of Psychiatry at the University of Ghana Medical School and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and former Chief Examiner at the College of Physicians and Surgeons.

After swearing in the Governing Board, Hon. Kweku Agyemang-Manu expressed his confidence in the quality of expertise of the membership of the Board and indicated his total commitment and support to them in the discharge of their duties. He reminded members of the critical role of the Authority and as such the Board's responsibility of ensuring that corporate governance principles are applied to safeguard public health and safety of the population.

In a brief acceptance remark, Dr Ohene described the role of the Board as onerous but indicated that members would continue to work diligently with the CEO, Mrs. Delese Darko, to effectively deliver on FDA's mandate. He further assured the Minister that the Board would ensure timely compliance to the policy directives of the Ministry while working within the remits of the Public Health Act (Act 851).
