FDA CONFERRED WITH A SPECIAL GOLD AWARD IN BUSINESS AND FINANCE

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has been awarded with a Special Gold Award in the Public Service category at the 1st Ghana Premier Business and Finance Excellence Awards Scheme held on Saturday, 10th October, 2020 at the Swiss Spirit Alisa Hotel. The theme for the event was, "Promoting Ghana's Economic Development".

The purpose of this award scheme was to honour business and finance institutions which have made remarkable contributions to the development of the economy of Ghana.

The award was received on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer of the FDA, Mrs. Delese Darko by Mr. Joseph Yaw Bernie Bennie, Head of Medical Devices Department of the FDA. In an interview with Joy Business News, he affirmed that the FDA deserved such recognition for its work in the regulation of PPEs manufactured by local industries and its contribution to the increase in revenue and as such, economic growth.

In the key note address read on behalf of the Guest of Honour, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal the Minister of Business Development, Alhaji Hafiz Adams, Chief Director at the Ministry said that, "the vision of Government demands us to encourage and resource local entrepreneurs, small businesses, private investment, and innovation, while building the average Ghanaian's confidence in investing in the nation". He added that, "Ghanaian ownership is at the core of this entrepreneurial drive".

The Chairman for this year's maiden edition, Nana (Dr.) Baah Wiredu in his Welcome address, said the award scheme for this year seeks to reward institutions that have performed a step ahead of others amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ceremony witnessed about seventeen (17) different institutions including the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Volta River Authority, Bank of Ghana, Stanbic Bank Ghana Limited, Star Assurance Company Limited, Gold Fields Ghana Limited, Ghana Tourism Authority among others receiving awards for their outstanding performances in different categories.
