The Senior Minister, Mr. Yaw Osafo Marfo on the 8th February 2019, paid a working visit to the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) to familiarize himself with the activities and challenges that the FDA might be encountering in the bid to execute its mandate.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of FDA, Mrs. Delese Darko who was in the company of some of her management team, welcomed the Senior Minister and briefed him on the direction of the FDA under her leadership. She spoke about the various measures put in place by the Authority to ensure the protection of Public Health and Safety.

The Senior Minister took the opportunity to find out about FDA’s Drug Registration regime and what the Authority was doing for the Herbal Industry in terms of registration and monitoring. He also asked about the recent recall and safe destruction of cosmetic products and other food products reported widely in the media.

The CEO, in responding, explained the rationale behind the recall and safe disposal of the products which was to ensure the protection of Public Health and Safety. She further indicated measures put in place to boost up the local industry, including the herbal industry.

The Minister expressed satisfaction with the decision and applauded the leadership of the FDA for its boldness. He assured the FDA that Government would do everything on their part to ensure the Authority is well resourced to protect Public Health and Safety of Ghanaians since everyone, at least in a day, uses a product being regulated by the FDA (foods, medicines, cosmetics, household chemicals and medical devices)

Mrs. Darko on behalf of Management and staff of the FDA thanked the Senior Minister for the visit and assured the minister of FDA’s avowed commitment to its mandate of ensuring Public Health and Safety in relation to all regulated products.
