ROTTEN MACKEREL IMPOUNDED

The attention of the FDA has been drawn to a consignment of rotten tin mackerel with the brand name as ‘Asahi’ which was being transported to an unknown destination.

The consignment of the ‘Asahi’ mackerel was impounded at Ofankor by the Mile 7 district police following reports from residents who could not stand the stench from the mackerel.

The said brand of mackerel, ‘Asahi’ has not been registered by the FDA and therefore its wholesomeness cannot be guaranteed.

Additionally, the FDA and the Ghana Police has launched an investigation into the matter to find out more about the importation and clearing of the mackerel.

The general public is cautioned against the patronage of the Asahi mackerel since its safety cannot be guaranteed and further, advised to inform the FDA should they come across the product on the market.

The FDA wishes to use this opportunity to thank the residents of Ofankor for giving the alert on the rotten mackerel and encourage others to do same should they find any suspicious activity.
