MRS. DARKO IS THE NEW CHAIR FOR AVAREF

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Mrs. Delese Mimi Darko, has been elected as the New Chair for the Steering Committee of the Assembly of the African Vaccine Regulatory Forum (AVAREF) at its 12th Annual Meeting organised in Accra on Wednesday, 29th November, 2017.

The AVAREF is the regional regulatory network founded by the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2006 and it is the platform for National Regulatory Authorities (NRA) to collaborate on regulating vaccine clinical trials. AVAREF was formed at a time when the focus on clinical trials of vaccines began to shift from developed countries to developing countries, including those in sub-Saharan Africa and it was a key actor in the fast-track approval of clinical trials of candidate Ebola vaccines during the West Africa Ebola epidemic.

The AVAREF is now expanding its scope with additional focus on other medical products and capacity building.

The entire staff and management of the FDA wish to congratulate Mrs. Darko on the occasion of her election to this high office.

Mrs. Darko, you make FDA and Ghana proud! Keep inspiring.
