To ensure efficient inspection of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) regulated products as well as other products entering and leaving Ghana, the Meridian Ports Services (MPS) has allotted offices to the FDA and other regulatory bodies at the new terminal 3 of the Tema Port.

Led by the Chief Executive Officer of FDA, Mrs. Delese A. A. Darko, the Strategic Management Members of FDA on Wednesday 26th June, 2019 toured the Tema Port expansion project to familiarize themselves with the progress of work as well as visit the facility allotted to the FDA.

According to the Operations Manager of MPS, Emmanuel Ohene Addo, the Áuthority Complex’ which is located at terminal 3 will help facilitate the operations of Authorities mandated for inspection at the Port.

Mr. Ohene Addo stated that 12 megawatts power station has been commissioned while 350 meters of breakwater has also been built. The new terminal comes with Optical Character Recognition Technology, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Tags and high-powered scanners to monitor and record the movement of trucks and containers in and out of the terminal.

This according to MPS will safeguard cargo and prevent unusual occurrences leading to loss of goods at the Port. It will as well provide the FDA and other Regulatory agencies with accurate database of all trucks and cargo that passes through the port.

Impressed with the speed of work at the new terminal, the CEO of FDA, Mrs. Darko commended MPS for the state-of-the-art facility and also for considering the FDA by giving the Authority an office at the Port to facilitate its inspections.
