Dr. Sammy Ohene

Chairman

He is the Head of Psychiatry at the University of Ghana Medical School and Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra, Ghana.

After completing his basic medical course in the University of Ghana, he went on to train in Psychiatry at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Nigeria, before returning to take up a teaching position in his old medical school.He also studied Substance Abuse in Cleveland, Ohio.

He is also a consultant psychiatrist for the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, teaching undergraduates and training residents. Dr. Ohene has been engaged in delivery of and research into various aspects of mental health in West Africa for more than 25 years.

A member of the technical committee of the Mental Health Authority of Ghana and has written and made presentations on mental health in Ghana at many international meetings.

Dr. Ohene holds Fellowships in Psychiatry from the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons as well as the West African College of Physicians, where he has been chief examiner in Psychiatry.

He is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the Commission on African Affaires of the International League Against Epilepsy.He also chairs the board of the Mental Health Society of Ghana.
