The Directorate has two departments, and they are:

MANDATE OF THE ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT
The mandate of the Administration Department of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) is to provide administrative services to the Divisions, Departments and Regional Offices for the smooth operationalization of their respective mandates.
Operational Activities of the Department
The Administration Department plays a pivotal role in overseeing various operational activities to ensure the smooth functioning of the organization. This encompasses the provision of secretarial services, including the efficient management of bookings for the Board Room and Conference Room, records management, management of the Authority’s vehicles. The department also oversees the management of FDA estate and rentals across the country. Operational efficiency extends to processing utility bills, security control management, and health and safety protocols. Furthermore, the comprehensive management of FDA assets nationwide underscores the commitment to responsible resource utilization. Overall, the Administration Department plays a crucial role in facilitating and optimizing the organization’s day-to-day operational activities.
SUPPLY CHAIN DEPARTMENT
The Department’s strategic direction has been heavily influenced by the Public Procurement Law in Ghana Act 663, 2003, as amended. This Act provides the legislative framework for public procurement in Ghana and defines official rules for the acquisition of goods, works, services, and consultancy.
The Department strives to ensure equitable, secure, and sustainable access to office stationery, office consumables, laboratory chemicals, office equipment, and all other necessary resources to support the FDA’s mandate of regulating food, drugs, food supplements, herbal and homeopathic medicines, veterinary medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, household chemical substances, tobacco and tobacco products, and the conduct of clinical trials.
Operational Activity of the Supply Chain Department
The Department works towards ensuring equitable, secure and sustainable access to office stationery , office consumable, Laboratory chemicals, Office equipment’s and all other things necessary to support the Food and Drug Authority mandate of ensuring the safety of the Ghanaian public through regulation of food, drugs, food supplements, herbal and homeopathic medicines, veterinary medicines, cosmetics, medical devices, household chemical substances, tobacco and tobacco products and the conduct of clinical trials. In table 1 below is the scope (categories) of the Department’s operational activities.
