Food and Drugs Authority Awarded ISO 9001:2015 Certification

The United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) through the world’s leading inspection, registration, testing and certification company, SGS has awarded the Food and Drugs Authority FDA, Ghana with ISO 9001:2015 Certification. This was received by the FDA on 30th June 2017 after a successful audit by the SGS (GH) Limited.

The certification is in all the Regulatory functions of Registrations, Inspections, Surveillance, Licensing and Clinical Trials within the various Department and Divisions of the FDA as well as Administrative Functions. The certification also extended to all FDA’s activities at the Tema Port.

This is the first time a government institution within the Ministry of Health has received ISO 9001:2015 certification covering its entire operational system, both technical and administrative.

The ISO 9001:2015 specifies requirements for a Quality Management System which an organization needs to demonstrate its day to day operations to consistently provide services as per regulatory requirements to meet customer satisfaction.

The certification therefore reflects FDA’s attainment of world class standard for quality management system. It also set the Authority apart as the best in class from the rest of other regulatory institutions in Ghana and on the whole of the African Continent.

By this accreditation, the Authority is adquately equipped to consistently and efficiently protect public health through its regulatory activities. It is also making all effort to continually meet its customers’ expectations to promote their satisfaction.

Through this international standard recognition, the FDA has created a culture of continous improvement, designed to regularly measure performance and manage risk during its regulatory and administrative activities.

It is worth mentioning that the FDA’s Quality Control Laboratory has already been awarded ISO/IEC17025:2005 accreditation by the American National Accreditation Board (ANAB) for testing since 2014. The Laboratory’s accreditation covers Pharmaceutical Physico chemical analysis, Pharmaceutical Microbiology analysis, Food Microbiology analysis and Medical Devices analysis. In all, the Laboratory is accredited for 39 different test, which makes its accreditation the highest scope for testing in Africa.

The FDA’s decision to become ISO 9001:2015 certified is a proactive one that not only seeks to improve the efficiency of its services but also, demonstrates a commitment to providing quality services to all current and future clients, suppliers and employees thereby improving customer satisfaction.

With great pride, the FDA sees this certification as a promotion of its vision of becoming a Centre of Regulatory Excellence in all areas, on the African continent.
