Newly Inaugurated Technical Advisory Committee Members Receives Training in Monitoring and Causality Assessment of Adverse Events Following Immunization. – October, 2016
A five-day AEFI Monitoring and Causality Assessment Training Workshop was organized by the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) with support from the World Health Organization (WHO) for the newly inaugurated Technical Advisory Committee on Safety of Vaccines and Biological Products (TAC-VBP) and AEFI Investigation Sub-Committee from Monday, October 3, 2016 to Friday, October 7, 2016.
Other beneficiaries of the workshop were members of staff from the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and the FDA.
The training aimed to equip members of the Committee with the skills and knowledge to effectively and efficiently carry out their mandate which include classification AEFI, and causality assessment for AEFI reports received by the FDA.
The programme was facilitated by experts from the WHO-HQ. The training workshop was in the form of power point presentations, group discussions, case studies, field visits, and hands-on practical exercises.
There were a number of recommendations and action points from the training workshop which will help strengthen the vaccine pharmacovigilance system in Ghana.
